Welll, I finally got to updating my Xanga, man I really need to update my picture on the side, boy was I hairy. haha. I also decided im not going to post up the great time I had in Syria, just because I don’t want to have to type it all up, but when I get a chance, I will post some nice pics

Wow, the first three days of college have been great/busy/fun. We started class on 8/30/01. On my way to Clemens I see Greg, the secretive CIA/military guy supposedly, from rite aid. World civ was a great class, then I went out and caught up with Bhavneet, after a while we saw serge and eugene outside the library, so we all went to the commuter lounge and they used my Laptop. Mean while I went upstairs and saw Tabish, Mersim, and some other msa people in the MSA room. then I went back down stairs, to the commuter lounge, serge and bhavneet went to class, and I went to the book store, then I met up with Jason at Starbucks, I also saw dukes and shapiro there. Leapi and I went to the football place so he could try out and philosophized a bit. Then him and dubsky came to my house and we ate rice, meat and potatoes, really good stuff. Jason wanted a pbj sandwich, which he took a big bite out of only then realizing that it was expired and smelled like alcohol. Then I headed to My UBE course and got there 20 minutes late, cause the area was so confusing, and all the shortcut doors were locked. After class, I again ran into Amherst people as I was leaving, and Cameron from Amherst turned out to be in my class. I had an hour so I made salat, and went to English, I ran into fahad on the way there. Then I met up with Bryan and miles and we had dinner at Richmond and had a great workout, then I went to class which turned out to be with amil, the class turned out to be a 300 level so I left, went to Richmond, played some halo with miles and Bryan, and went to the room across and switched that class, and talked about nickoled and dimed. Then I went to the msa meeting at 9and was appointed chairman of the dawah committee, and amil dropped me home.

8/31/04
Second day of college
I went to the library at noon, and switched some books, then I went to my Huge Bio class, and boy I ran into allot of people I knew on my way there and back. Then I met up with serge at the commuter lounge, and we went to the msa office for prayer, then I met up with serge again at this one movie/video game club which I joined for the hell of it, then I joined the ski club, then serge and Eugene left, so I went back to the msa where mohsen, mersim, and other people were and had a great lunch, afterwards we went to the book store down town, and then I went back to the NSC for my politics lecture. I ran into Bryan, huntz, mat, and some other people on the way, I went to the library, organized my schedule, stopped by the msa, and then the ub bookstore, then Richmond, then went to sleep early at home.

Today’s been a nice day as well, I saw drew on my way to my world Civilization class, then I met up with Zeus and another friend inside, after the lecture, I caught up with mohsen, and shuja by the msa, we tried to get the msa key, then I had a quick lunch at Bk, and headed off to my intro to American politics class. On the way out I saw Aguirre, we hadn’t seen each other since SATs, and we walked back to the SU together. Then I ran into Bryan, and got in line with him, miles his friend and her cousin and got a vegie burger from Hyder. and we ate in front of student union and they signed my petition for assemblymen, I ran into sela on my way back in, then they left and I went up stairs and saw part of gladiator, then I prayed noon at the MSA, and chatted with Ergash, about some personal matters, and finally came down here to Lockwood and typed this

man, my memory keeps getting worse, and I have so many things to do, got to stay organized. I’m starting to wish I went to an out of state college where don’t know anyway one, because there’s too many people here I know from Amherst, north, and just all around and I cant find time to sit down and study, oh well, imp going to have to start ignoring everyone and hide my self and open a book for class somewhere. I have English at 4, then I should meet up with miles at 5, and work out with Ergash at 8.. time to study....

*****UPDATE********
I stopped by the student lounge, and saw more ppl from North. Then I went to English class. And waited outside with Meacham, until I ran into Manu. Its always good to see familiar faces. Then In English class I met a couple new people. When I left, mom called me and gave me the worst news! The grand Mufti of Syria, 97 Year Old Sheikh Ahmad Kuftaro had passed away. I had just been in his lectures a couple weeks ago in Syria. He is one of the greatest and most loved people in Syria if not the world. He was known to be years ahead of his time in promoting, peace, understanding, and interfaith dialogue. So that news got me pretty down, I had been going to his lectures since I was a toddler, and my dad was one his closest students. Thousands upon thousands of people gather weekly to hear him speak, I even visited him personally at his house about three years back. May god have mercy on his soul. Even though I was very distraught at hearing the news, after a little bit, I wasn’t really sad anymore, I felt just as I did when my moms uncle, who was just like my grandfather to me, died this summer, I was sad for loosing him, but happy for him, for I knew he was now in a happy, relaxed content state. In fact before we buried him, we saw a great smile on his face.

After that I sat down on the grass, and just thought about my memories with the great sheikh, when I ran into fahad and his friend, I walked with them for a bit, then went to the library to read up upon what happened, then I checked out the MSA, and saw the 70's show in the commuter lounge, then after 20 minutes, Ergash called me and I met up with him and Jeneigh at Alumni, man, we had a killer work out-Afterwards I went to the msa for the fourth prayer of the day, then Orfan picked me up and gave me a ride home.
tiring day---

Oh man!!!! WoW-They changed my flight again! Turns out now im leaving Friday morning, WaAaAaAaAaA! Thats in six hours!!! And again, they tell me this the last minute, oh well, i really need to pack some stuff, which ill do right after this-i dont think im getting any sleep tonight. Today was a stressfull day by the end.

I got up, took a shower, and then worked on all the little things that i had to get done before i leave to Syria. I was supposed to go meet some freinds at Glenn Falls at 2:30, but my mom has my car-Finaly when she gets home at 4:00, its still another 45 minuts before i get the car, because of all the things i had to get done. Finaly i drice down (thelong way accidently) to Glenn Falls, and get there at 5, meeting up with LZ, LM, SN,and JT- I had some good tuna caserol, and alot of Watermellon that Serge brought. We then go up b the parking lot, and as we are waiting for Dan Z to get there, Serge and i Prettended to fight and got ourselves all muddy. We sit and have a chat, all of us, then Dan comes, and we Say goodbye, and they go to Bubble tea, then Jons house. I Drive to Supar Bazar to pick up some spices for Fahads BBq he invited me too. As i pull in, i saw a cop, had ulled over this ladys car, and i rememberd how much i hated cops, and glared at the car, hah. Finaly after getting the spices, i pull out, and make a left on Baily, and think to my self, "Should i speed, the cops probibly long gone by now, hmh, nah i reall shouldn't"  So i look around for a speed limit, and notice the same cop right behind me! Im like sh** i was't speeding, but wasn't sre either, i see a yellow 20mph sign, so i use it as an excuse to slow down even more, then i slow down more for a stop sgin, and ight as m about to stop for it, he pulls me over! Man, i knew it was coming  ---dah too sleepy-will finish/spell check this from syria-ByeBye!!

(The symbol of the Sufi Order, which is a heart with wings, is symbolical of its ideal. The heart is both earthly and heavenly. The heart is a receptacle on earth of the Divine Spirit, and when it holds the Divine Spirit, it soars heavenward; the wings picture its rising. The crescent in the heart symbolizes responsiveness. It is the heart which responds to the spirit of God that rises. The crescent is a symbol of responsiveness because it grows fuller as the moon grows fuller by responding more and more to the sun as it progresses. The light one sees in the crescent is the light of the sun. As it gets more light with its increasing response, so it becomes fuller of the light of the sun. The star in the heart of the crescent represents the divine spark which is reflected in the human heart as love, and which helps the crescent toward its fullness.  )

Saturday 7/03/04 was a sad day, Yang’s last day in buffalo. I went to his house at about 10:15, and Serge and Lisa were there helping his mom pack. i waited for yang to get back, as he was already late, and didn’t show up for another half an hour, so i just chatted with them. Finally, when yang arrived, me, and his dad, got in there Taurus and drove to Syeds Auto, so he could check out the car to see if it was wroth buying. I really waned to buy his car; it had leather seats, and was a good deal. But man, Syed Shams totally advised against it, he said it would need $500 worth of repairs before it could get on the road. I personal still would have bought it, but it was up to my dad. So Yang's father and i drove back to my house. We talked with my dad, and he said would give them an answer within the hour. After Yang’s dad left, i talked with my dad, and he called Shams again, but he really advised against getting a 95 Taurus, and said it would need allot of work. I felt bad for Yang, he was leaving fro NJ, and i wanted to take the car off his hands, but as my dad put it, weed be taking the problem out of there hands and into ours. I really hoe he finds someone to buy the car.

After stopping at Yang’s to tell hi the bad news, we went to Dr. Jureydas house, and had a nice conversation with him, Ali, and Bayram, and i got to eat a great lunch. Then at about 3:30 we drove back home and i took the Sienna, and drove to Yang’s and caught him just before he left. Brian, Bhavneet, Josh, LZ, and Serge were there saying goodbye, afterwards, they put Serge’s bike in my van, and i drove by Yang’s car, waved goodbye, and dropped serge off.

Then i stayed until about 5:15 at Brandon’s part, but i didn’t really know allot of the people that were there. I went home, and relaxed for a bit, before my dad dropped me off at Dave’s Party. His party was nice and relaxing, we basically just sat and chatted with Dave, York, Aezad, Greg, and some other people. We had a really weird conversation with Dave’s much Older Cousin who was in the Army, and thought Saddam and Bush should both be raped (he went into disturbing detail as to how).

I left the party at 10:00 and walked to the masjid, we prayed Isha, and shortly after was a Sufi Hadrah. It was amazing, basic we sit in a circle, as the "munshedin" recite beautiful poetry, and then we all meditate its such a wonderful experience. I finally got home at around one.

Sunday 7/04/04 was a fun day as well. We went to a picnic at Ellicott creek park. It was soo hot, but great food. I played 2 game of Barjeese with my grandma and she beat me both times, grrr. Then i saw none other then Ala` (Alex/Aladdin) Man this guy was awesome, we were great friends years back, but then his dad sent him to Jordon, to whip him into shape, and he just came back, he’s a good guy, doing pretty well, hopefully ill see him more often when i come back from my trip.

After that picnic, we went to the Eddib's Aquequah- basically a celebration when someone has a baby-at whirl pool park. Right when we got there a heavy storm set it, but it was cool, since we were under a big shelter. I enjoyed the food, and chilled with Hassan, and Ahmad Eddib, Adil, Ali, and Yousef from Texas.

They played some foot ball in the rain, and then we sat round and told jokes for a while. Then we went down and looked upon the whirlpool.

When we came back, my friends like watch out! and i looked down and saw this weird embryo/undeveloped baby animal thingy, it was probably a squirrel. We saw it move so i guess it was alive, but it seemed as its eyes haven’t opened up yet.

We felt sorry for this helpless creature, so we covered a leaf over its body, and put a stick next to it so no one would step over it. then we saw another squirrel running around, so we left it, and figured it was its mother or something.

Afterwards, we played a great game of soccer. Alis dad scored to goals, it was so much fun.

Then i got in the car with Alis dad, and there family and we drove to the Seneca Niagara casino parking lot to see the fire works, they had there own background music which was pretty cool.

After a 20 minute show, it took us an hour and 20 minutes to get back, because we had to get gas for one of the cars following us, and alis dad was driving like 40 mph on the highway so the cars behind us wouldn’t get lost. I got a little impatient, because i had already missed the Isha (5th prayer) prayer in congression at the masjid, and i was afraid of missing the Hadrah.  We got to the masjid 11:40, i made cleaned up, prayed Isha, and saw Fahad, who was really happy i told him about this program, I also met a great brother who had graduated from Harvard Law, and wanted to stay in touch so he could help me out with advice, very nice guy, i guess his wife and my mom are good freinds too, the live in D.C-- the hadra had just begun-wow, what an amazing spiritual experience, by far Sufi Spirituality, is by far the best the world has seen, i guarantee you’ll love it, combining love, unity, and oness with the divine, transcending to a whole new level, unbelievable.

Monday 7/05/04, i got up pretty early, at 10:00, and went to the masjid, and sat down and listened to the poetry, until Sheikh Keller, came and shared his wisdom. Afterwards was lunch, lots of meat, then we prayed Duhur. Man, i was so lucky!!! i was standing right next to Sheikh Keller during the prayer and got a chance to speak with him afterwards, he’s so humble and compassionate and tranquil. Afterwards, there was one last hadra(if you want more detail as to what it is exactly talk to me or something) led b the Sheikh himself. After that, we did this thing with everyone in the hadrah, starting with the man  next to the sheikh, he would shake and kiss each others hands, and then stand next to him, and then the third  person in line would do the same, and so forth until all like 200 of us had shook hands with everyone else. It was beautiful, I met so many wonderful brothers during this weekend, and you really feel a strong brotherly love and connection with each one of them, i cant wait too see them when the sheikh comes back in two years!

When i came home i took the rest of the day to relax, read a book, slept, had some fun... Leaving for Syria in 5 days!!!!

Well, well, I guess my flight to Syria had been postponed, again! Well, I guess that’s more of a good thing, as long as i make it in time for my uncles wedding. First, we were supposed to leave Tuesday 6/29, then Tuesday 7/06, now it should be next Saturday, hopefully.

Ohh mannn, i spent a beautiful day at Chautauqua, and i forgot to bring my digital camera! Oh well, i doubt ill be forgetting today anytime soon anyway. We arrived at the beach (my family and i) pretty early, probably around 9/10:00 so we set up a picnic area, and i just relaxed, and got a little sleep. Then i Played around with my little brother and sisters, and then took my sister to the library they have over there. It was really nice there. Since the Chautauqua community is an institution with the purpose of promoting knowledge, and higher thought, reading at the library was not a bad thing to do. I finished last weeks time, and then read the introduction and first chapter of Stupid White Men, by Moore, can you believe i still have not read that book- After a relaxing hour or two at the library, i walked back to the beach with m sister, and had lunch with the family. Afterwards, i changed into my swimming trucks, and went out to check the boat rentals. Turns out everything except the paddle boats were booked, and since we have one in our back yard, we weren’t too inclined to rent one.

So i went back, and played this old Arab "board game" under a tree with my grandma, she had actually made the set we were using herself for me like ten years ago. Man, they were close games, she owned me the first time, and the second game was pretty intense considering i was playing with my grandmother, but i just barely won. Afterwards, i took my baby sister for a swim in the lake for the first time in her life, she had so much fun. The only problem is this little girl would not stop splashiung water at me and chasing me around, and then my baby sister, Serene started splashing me. I took her out to the deeper end for a few swims, she loved it! Then i went back and lay in the sun for a while, played with the sand, heehee, and got ready to leave at about 5.

After the beach, we played around in this min-labyrinth, then my dad took us to one of his patients cafés that she owns in Chautauqua. The nice lady gave us all huge ice cream cones, and wouldn’t let us pay. Then dad went and got the car, and headed back home. We had spent most of the day at the children beach, which is the only beach we go to there, but i still love it. I guess its because we have been going every year since i was like 8. So many great memories. we go on the same day every year for my dads dental conference, but we always spend the day at the beach, so its been sort of a tradition. The cool thing is to the right of the beach, the land is a scale model of Palestine, with the lake as the Mediterranean sea, man made creek thing for the dead see, and even elevated land for the ,mountains, over a span of probably 50 yards. And the best part is everyone is so nice and happy, always smiling, and starting up great conversations with random strangers, and being so friendly.

When we got back home at 7:30, i quickly changed and we headed down to the Masjid. Sheikh Noah H.M Keller, had just arrived in Buffalo, and people from all over had came to hear him speak. The place was over crammed. This scholar was amazing, he was born in America, and embraced Islam a while back,. and studied in Syria, and is now one of the greatest Muslim Sufi/Spirituality scholars in all of America. Knowledge just starts pouring into your heart, the second you sit-down with him. Its like *WoW*, you never feel so enlightened. I mean this guy has mastered spirituality, he is so tranquil and calm, you can almost sense his heart beating like thirty times a minute. He sleeps only for one hour a night, yet he is so invigorating! He is truly one of the most spiritual people i know, it doesn’t matter if you happen to be Muslim or not, you will feel so enlightened around him, just amazing! Anyway, im defiantly looking forward to spending most of the next three days with him. As an added bonus, i was able to see allot of old friends too, since they also Came to see him. Anyway, i finally got back home at tenish, and discussed buying Yangs car with my dad, which ill probably do tomorrow, as for now, i think im dead tired, i think im going to stay home and catch up on some reading. After all next week is going to be real busy as im leaving in one week! (i know, i know, ive said that two times two weeks ago already ) well, should be for real this time...
